Japan, Satsuma, late Meiji period (1868-1912) Large porcelain stoneware baluster vase, with handles featuring a lion's mouth mascaron holding non-removable rings, decorated with flowering branches and perched birds, enhanced with gold. Bronze mounting and stand. H. 66 cm. (old restoration on the top edge).

The rim of the Satsuma vase is further decorated within the outer lip, a sign of quality from the artist. The base of the vase is signed with the Ryozan mark which has also been painted gold. Provenance: private collection in Pennsylvania. Dimensions: H: 24 in., (61 cm.) Perfect.
