François-Antoine Aveline (1718-1780), The Battle of Nancy in 1477, Rare copperplate engraving, view: 24x17.2cm + frame 35.5x 28.5cm On January 5, 1477, the Battle of Nancy pitted the army of the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, against the army of the Duke of Lorraine, René II, during the Burgundian Wars (1473-1477), which ended with the defeat and death of the Bold. A copy of this engraving is kept in the collections of the French National Library.
