Löffler and Adolf Loos, moved to Berlin around 1910 and worked on Herwarth Walden's magazine "Der Sturm", returned to Vienna in 1911 and worked as an assistant at the Kunstgewerbeschule and collaborated with the Wiener Werkstätten, joined the Freie Sezession Berlin in 1914 and volunteered for the war, moved to Dresden after being wounded in 1917, here 1919-26 member of the Academic Council and professor at the Academy of Art, already on leave from his professorial duties from 1924, Kokoschka undertakes a seven-year journey through Europe, North Africa and the countries of the eastern Mediterranean, 1931 return to Vienna and alternating stays in Paris and Vienna, 1933-45 defamed as "degenerate", 1934 flight to Prague, here prof. at the Academy of Art and founded the "Oskar Kokoschka-Bund" in 1937, emigrated to England in 1938, British citizenship in 1946, founded the "Schule des Sehens" in Salzburg in 1953 and moved to Villeneuve, subsequently travelled extensively, exhibited (e.g. documenta in Kassel) and received international honours, returned to Austrian citizenship in 1975, member of the German and Austrian Artists' Associations, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Dressler and Wikipedia.

Walter Prescher van Ed, Harbour View with Town River meandering past the houses of a town (probably Dutch), on it a red sailor, in the background an implied harbour with further boats, expressive painting with Prescher's characteristic, strongly impastoed application of paint and strong colouring complemented by energetically placed black contours, in the area of the sky with large areas of smearing, oil on canvas, mid-20th century, signed "VAN ED", barely legible lower left, early shrinkage cracks, framed, dimensions approx. 40 x 80 cm. Artist information: actually Walter Prescher, artist's inscription "van Ed", also signed "Professor W. P. VANED", German painter (1916 Dresden - 1988).
