LEGION D'HONNEUR / Small printed placard (23 x 36 cm) announcing the open subscription for the reconstruction of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur burnt down by the Commune / Enclosed: letter dated November 25, 1873 from the Cabinet du Grand Chancelier acknowledging receipt to a subscriber of his participation.

Medal of the Legion of Honor; France, 20th century. Gold and enamel. Measurements: 10 x 6,5 cm. Weight: 37 g (total). The National Order of the Legion of Honor was created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. The motto of the order is Honneur et Patrie ("Honor and Fatherland"); its headquarters is the Palace of the Legion of Honor, next to the Musée d'Orsay, on the left bank of the Seine, in Paris. It is the highest French order of merit, both military and civilian.
