Tissot, from Geneva, studied medicine in Montpellier, before moving to Lausanne, where he became a famous physician, and then to Pavia. "Special issue of the original Lausanne edition of 1768 with a title page mentioning, in addition to François Grasset's name, the name of the Lyon bookseller Benoît Duplain." A physician famous, among other things, for his treatises on the evils of masturbation, he also wrote popular medical books, with a view to developing preventive medicine.
