Paris, Libraires associés, 1793-1805. 10 volumes plus 2 volumes of supplements. 19.5 by 25 cm. Glazed half calf with corners, smooth spine (slightly later binding), marbled edges. Boards with the Society of Writers to the Signet coat of arms in the center. Solid binding, but with numerous minor flaws (faded title-pieces, a few cracked jaws without affecting the solidity of the volumes, a few faded headpieces. Interior with a few rare brown spots, otherwise very good condition. This copy contains 274 plates (engravings, maps and tables) out of a total of 277. The 3 plates bis and ter are missing, never bound. A frontispiece in volume 10. This copy includes the two supplement volumes, in a perfectly uniform binding. 3rd edition, in large format. Abbé ROZIER (1734-1793) was a botanist from Lyon. A member of the Académie des Sciences, he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Revolution, a constitutional priest, and sought to create a National School of Agriculture. His comprehensive agricultural course, a pioneer in many technical fields, had a major influence on French agriculture. He died before completing the work, which was finished by CHAPTAL, DUSSIEUX, LASTEYRIE, CADET-de-VAUX, PARMENTIER, GILBERT, ROUGIER-LABERGERIE and CHAMBON. The Society of Writers to the Signet is a private society of lawyers founded in 1594. Since the end of the 18th century, it has maintained an important library with impressive architecture.
