French school of the late 18th or early 19th century. Presumed portrait of Hortense de Beauharnais, circa 1801 Miniature on ivory. Mounted later on a box. Diameter of the miniature: 7.6 cm TTB for the miniature. Box hooping to be reassembled. Anonymous work, possibly made in the Malmaison gardens by someone close to Queen Hortense. Hortense is known to have played stringed instruments.
