Les Simonnet (nés en 1939 et 1942) Sculpture Totem 2014 In fiberglass signed and dated on the terrace H. 44 cm W. 22 cm D. 20 cm Marthe and Jean-Marie Simonnet are a couple of artists. They met in 1964 at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, and jointly pursue an ongoing artistic investigation of form in the most emblematic material of the 20th century (and the most reviled of the 21st): plastic. The industrial appearance and eroticism of their work has long confused viewers! But the message is wrong: each of their works is born in their studio, made up of an assembly of fiberglass modules imagined and manufactured by them with a view to proliferation. The reasoning is mathematical, yet full of poetry, aiming for infinite form, like that offered by nature. Here lies the very essence of their art, which bridges the gap between geometry and the organic, extending the biomorphic experiments of Moore, Arp, Hepworth, Noguchi, Aalto...
