Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX (1827-1875) Bust of Alexandre Dumas fils Black patina terracotta proof Bears a dedication "all sommo Pensieroso Alexandre Dumas fils suo amico" and signed "Carpeaux 1873" on the side of the terrace. Stamped with an eagle and Atelier & Dépôt 71 rue Boileau Auteuil Paris on the back of the terrace. Numbered "2439". Height: 44 cm Restoration to neck, missing patina, small hole in back of head. A close friend of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux since their meeting in Rome in 1861, Alexandre Dumas fils commissioned Carpeaux to create his bust for the Comédie-Française foyer, alongside those of Alfred de Musset and Honoré de Balzac.
