Alt-Wien Cup with Saucer Flower Painting Pressed band shield marks 1827-1860, dated 1829, embossed numbers and painter's number 7 for Eduard Pollack (1825-1848), footed bell-shaped cup with high paw handle, lilac-coloured ground, with a lilac-coloured ground, a lilac rose in fine polychrome overglaze painting on the front, gilded edges and inner lip gilding, matching saucer with corresponding decoration and a gentian flower in the centre, the ground minimally rubbed, otherwise in good condition for its age, h 8 cm overall, enclosed slip Dorotheum c. 2000.

Artist information: real name Karl Georg Larsen, Danish painter and sculptor (1897 Copenhagen - 1977 Holte), from 1912 studied at the Technical University in Copenhagen, between 1921-25 stayed in the south of France, 1926 scholarship from the Academy of Arts, 1941-47 worked as a designer for animal sculptures for the Royal Porcelain Factory, was given a studio in the villa of his patron W. Artist's note: actually Eduard Karl Franz von Gebhardt, German portrait and history painter (1838 Järva-Jaani/Estonia [Eng.: Sankt Johannis] to 1925 Düsseldorf), 1855-57 studied at the St. Petersburg Academy, 1857-58 studied at the University of St. Petersburg. Petersburg, 1857-58 on study trips through Belgium and Holland, 1858-59 studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under Ludwig Des Coudres, followed by study trips to Vienna, Munich and Tyrol, settled in Düsseldorf from 1860, master pupil and friend of Wilhelm Sohn (1829-1899), member from 1866, later an honorary member of the Düsseldorf artists' association "Malkasten", 1873-75 teacher and 1875-94 professor of history painting at the Düsseldorf Academy, maintained a student studio from 1874, study trip to Italy in the 1880s, exhibited at the world exhibitions in Vienna (1873), Paris (1878 and 1900), St. Louis (1904) and Brussels (1904).
