Wilhelm Theodor Nocken studierte 1847-1851 Landschaftsmalerei bei Johann Wilhelm Schirme an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie und erhielt währenddessen ein einjähriges Stipendium. 1851 beendete er sein Studium und stellte ab dann regelmäßig auf Ausstellung aus. Künstlerischen Wiedererkennungswert besitzen seine Werke durch die Motivik, die sich auf Bayerische und Tiroler Gebirgsansichten konzentriert, liebevoll eingesetzte Staffagefiguren, eine dramatische Lichtinszenierung und schließlich die Perspektive des Fernblickes. Oil on canvas. Signed. Framed in gold-coloured stucco frame. - Slightly soiled. Small, brownish stains isolated on the painting surface. Good overall. Idyllic mountain landscape with lovingly depicted forest landscape in harmonious colouring. - Wilhelm Theodor Nocken is a representative of the Dusseldorf Painting School. His works show a distinct style and feeling due to their motifs which focus on Bavarian and Tyrolean mountain views, lovingly used staffage figures, dramatic lighting and, finally, the perspective of the distant view.
