Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed as President

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, December 24, 1908. Letter to Hon. Pearl Wight in New Orleans, referring to the newspaper publishers who had accused him of corruption in 1908, including Joseph Pulitzer of the New York World. In part: "I have prized your friendship, your unvarying support and kindness, and the way in which you have constantly treated me thruout my term as President, and your good opinion means much to me. The editor of the New York World, and for that matter the editor of the New York Sun, ought by rights to be treated just as you say they would be treated in New Orleans." He adds a handwritten postscript: "Wishing you a Merry Xmas, I am." In very good to fine condition, with overall light creasing, and haloing to the ink. Accompanied by a provenance statement explaining Roosevelt's relationship with Wight, a figure in New Orleans business and politics who gave advice to Roosevelt throughout his presidency.
