Alfred Fontville de Breanski, British 1877-1957- An Evening at a Lock on the River Avon, Worcester; oil on canvas, signed 'A.F. de Breanski' (lower left), 35.4 x 53.5 cm. ARR. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Alfred Fontville de Breanski studied with and was heavily inspired by his father, the well-known landscape painter Alfred de Breanski Sr. (1852-1928), and, like his father, he became well-known for his dramatic and expansive highland views. The present scene shows a more peaceful and contemplative aspect of De Breanski Jr's oeuvre, depicting an idyllic river landscape illuminated by the soft glow of evening, conveyed through the artist's generous application of warm pink and orange pigment, contrasting with the pale blue of the sky above.
