Attributed to Sir John James Steuart of Allanbank, Scottish 1779-1849- Soldiers on horseback; pencil, pen, brown ink and watercolour on paper, 11.8 x 13.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work bears a striking similarity to a sketch by Steuart, also depicting a figure, seemingly in historical costume, mounted on horseback, apparently in the midst of battle, which sold at Christie's, London, on 21 November 2019 (lot 12), as part of the Ross Collection From Knockmore, Enniskerry, Wicklow.
