Description

CHRISTIAN HECKSCHER (Belgium, 1951). Dining table, 1980s. Unique piece. Brass. Presents marks of use typical of the passage of time. Measurements: 266 x 111 cm. Table entirely made of brass, without moldings or ornaments, raised on two rectangular structures in the same material, creating an open base that prints rotundity to the design. The designer extracts poetry from the simple object, having learned from the modern movement the combination of rigor and originality. In Brussels, Christian Heckscher worked as an apprentice during the day at the prestigious advertising firm J. Walter Thompson, while at night he trained in a metal sculptor's studio where he developed the concept of creating engraved metal furniture. Since then he has not stopped designing and producing intricate engravings on metal surfaces. Throughout his career as a designer he has received commissions from high-profile clients in Europe, North America and Asia. In 1980 he moved his workshop from Brussels to the United States, where he became internationally recognized as a truly exceptional craftsman. The artist himself states "What I enjoy in creating furniture is to design and produce an object that is functional and radiates feelings and emotions, an entity that one wants to connect with, live with and appreciate."
