Brescia, Boninus de Boninis, de Ragusia, May 31, 1487. In 2nd. 348 x 222 mm. . Roman characters 110:R for text and 81:R for commentary, blank spaces for initials, illustrated by 68 splendid full-page woodcuts ascribable to two different artists and enclosed within ornate silographic frames on a criblé ground, previously used in the Catullus impressed by de' Bonini in 1485, letterpress mark on black ground and the initials "B.B." on verso of penultimate paper, tear in lower white margin of c.a2, c paper healed and restored to outer margin, c.o2 small restored fore-edge, EXCELLENT specimen in EXCEPTIONAL BINDING IN FULL BROWN LEATHER 19th c. with gold inscriptions to plates (title and typographical data) and fine phytomorphic decorations to spine, gilt edges, defects to hinges, binding by famous bookbinder Katharine Adams (1862 - 1952) executed in 1904. Ex libris to the backstrip by Alfred Acland, later passed into the library of C.H.St John Hornby Shelley House, Chenlsea in December 1923. Other handwritten ownership note to 1st paper, possibly 17th-century hand.
