Stefan Vukmanovic, Wendebild Composition of heads and geometric forms, arranged in a mirror-like reversible picture, in the formal language one can certainly see Vukmanovic's borrowings from his teacher Crodel, but in the abstract facial expressions of the heads one also seems to recognise unmistakable stylistic echoes of Hungarian Expressionists such as Hugó Scheiber and Béla Kádár, acrylic on textured chipboard, 2nd half 20th century, each signed lower right/upper left "St. VUKMANOVIC", on the reverse with inventory number "2787", framed, folded dimensions approx. 70 x 67 cm. Artist information: Serbian painter (1924 Belgrade - 1995 Degernau near Biberach), known as "Utrillo von Schwabing", turned to painting at the age of 28, studied at the Munich Academy under Charles Crodel from 1955, 1957-58 Bavarian state scholarship, active in Munich, source: Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Kiessling and Internet.

Edition illustrated with 50 finely colored plates, gilded on copper by Ellis and Poole after Kininger's work (peasants and villagers of Upper Austria, the County of Neutra, the Moravian plain, Tyroleans, Hungarians, Bohemians). Ex-libris of the Imperial Hermitage Library, St. Petersburg, ex-libris of Count Chandon de Briailles. Introduction missing, minor rubbing to corners and spine, a few carryovers, otherwise a fine copy in contemporary morocco. (Colas, no. 2112; Vinet, no. 2170)
