Description

PUSHKIN ALEXANDER (1799-1837) Eugene Onegin, translated into French: [manuscript]. No place, circa 1839.

– [190] p.; 21x17 cm. In half-leather period binding. In good condition. Wear to the binding, crack along the endpaper, owner's notes and marks in French, several sheets at the end of the block (outside the text) are cut out. A fair manuscript of the translation of Alexander Pushkin's novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" into French, with minor corrections. The prose translation, quite close to the original, was done by an unknown author two years after the poet's death. The translator's preface is dated July 1839 in the manuscript. Pages [187-189] include the poem "Medallion" in Russian. The manuscript holds exceptional importance for the study of Russian-French literary connections in the first half of the 19th century."
