YOUNG WOMAN WITH PLUCKED FLOWERS IN HER ARMS Oil on hardboard. 100 x 75 cm. Signed "LSchmutzler" upper right. In decorative frame. Three-quarter portrait in front of a field with flowering poppies under a cloudy sky in the light of the almost set sun. The woman with red-brown hair moved by the wind, her left shoulder bare and holding a bundle of daisies and filled poppies in her gathered robe. She has turned her raised head to one side and is gazing thoughtfully into the distance with her large, expressive eyes. A virtuoso depiction in the typical style of the famous artist. Leopold Schmutzler studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1880 and painting in Munich from the fall of 1882. He was a sought-after portraitist and painted members of the Bavarian royal family.(1400125) (18)
