Nicolás Enríquez (Mexico, 1704 - 1790) "Pietá" Oil on copper. Signed: "Enriq. Fac." 42 x 32,5 cm. Nicolás Enríquez was a member of the first Academy of painters established in Mexico circa 1722 by the brothers Nicolás and Juan Rodríguez Juárez, and he is considered one of the best artists painting on copper of the time. The Metropolitan Museum of New York acquired a series of five oil paintings on copper by the Mexican painter Nicolás Enríquez in 2014, to enrich its collection of New Spanish art. This series was commissioned fromEnríquez in 1773 by the Basque merchant Juan Bautista Echeverría.
