On landing at PHALERON BAY in Greece on October 1, 1937, the aircraft piloted by Captain POOLE collided violently with the sea. With its fuselage damaged, it sank in a matter of minutes. Three passengers drowned, while the mail, damaged by the sea, was recovered. A different mark was affixed by the authorities depending on the country of destination: -LETTER from Alexandria Egypt to Paris. Departure stamp Alexandria September 31, 1937. Stamps detached by the sea. On back: CAD arrival Paris October 6 + French Post repair strips + large French Post justification claw, 5 lines in violet: "SERVICE POSTAL FRANCAIS correspondance retardée par suite du naufrage d'un avion. Reconstituted by the French service NE PAS TAXER".

AEROPHILATELIE - COURRIER ACCIDENTE MAY 9 1933 - COMPAGNIE AEROPOSTALE - AVION LATECOERE 28 - Line CASABLANCA to TOULOUSE; Crew: pilots EMLER and RIGUELLE, radio navigator GUYOMAR. 3 passengers: Mr. Valette and Mr. and Mrs. Subiere. The plane leaves Barcelona at 2.03pm for Perpignan. Shortly after departure, the radio signaled that they were climbing above the clouds for better visibility, and asked for weather information on the Perpignan to Toulouse route. No further contact is made. At 2:30 p.m., at an altitude of 1,700 metres, in the village of Villadrau, near Villa Grande, the plane collides with a village house. The crew and passengers were killed, and the plane caught fire from leaking fuel. The mail, badly damaged by the fire, is recovered and forwarded with a special stamp: -LETTRE au départ de Casablanca, cachet à date 8 Mai 1933 - fortement incendiée en pourtour, porte la griffe justificative des postes de France : "CORRESPONDANCE AVION retardée et détérioré par la suite de l'accident aérien survenu le 9 mai 1933" (struck in violet). Also on the front, arrival stamp "TOULOUSE REBUTS 12 MAI 1933".

AEROPHILATELIE - COURRIER ACCIDENTE DECEMBER 15 1928 - COMPAGNIE LATECOERE - Ligne CASABLANCA à TOULOUSE - (CASABLANCA to TOULOUSE route) Piloted by ROZES, the Toulouse-bound plane had to make a forced landing at Mlgrat (near Barcelona) due to a lack of visibility caused by thick fog. Residents came to the rescue, but the punctured fuel tanks leaked petrol, and a smoker may have been the cause of the plane's fire. 30 kilos of mail out of the 130 kilos carried were destroyed. The recovered mail, badly damaged by the fire, was stamped in Toulouse by the postal services: -LETTER from "TANGER CHERIFFIEN December 14, 1928", franked at 1F50 Moroccan stamp. Significant burn marks at the top of the letter. Bears the claw "AVION CORRESPONDENCE delayed and damaged as a result of the air accident on December 15, 1928". Note: small plus: a small press article from the period is attached to the letter.

On the back arrival PARIS 17 and sender's stamp attached to the French Embassy in Rio de Janeiro, () SANTOS DUMONT: monoplane seaplane built by BLERIOT. 4 Hispano Suiza 650 HP engines: a tracto-propeller block in the center flanked by 2 tractive engines. Fuel tank 11684 liters. 60 passengers. First flight in August 1933, assigned in 1935 to the regular France-South America service via Dakar. The 38th and final voyage of the Santos Dumont took place in June 1937.
