GRAS Model 1874 Infantry rifle made by the Manufacture de St Étienne, modified to M80 and subsequently converted to hunting by the Manufacture d'Armes et Cycles de St Étienne (shortened). Cal. 11 mm. Serial no. "N 6281". All metal parts in their original tan with traces of oxidation, all parts not to the same no. (the breech "D 8243"). Breechcase marked "Manufacture de St Étienne Mle 1874 M80". Unmarked barrel stamped "M. E." and "J. H" and "B" in a circle. Dark stained walnut stock without number and without with boxwood badge and pastille. Rod missing. Functional mechanism, needle present, barrel interior dirty and oxidized with shallow scratches. 119 cm (barrel 68.5 cm). (Wear and tear. Fairly good condition). Note: many Chassepot and Gras regulation rifles and shotguns were converted to hunting in the factory and offered in sales catalogs under the heading of centerfire hunting weapons, notably in the catalogs of the Manufacture de St Étienne in the early 20th century.
