Descripción

Joseph Étienne BIET, Charles NORMAND, Louis Marie NORMAND, Souvenir du Musée des monuments français. Collection de 40 perspectives Paris, 18211 vol. in-folio: faux-titre, engraved title, xiip. 40 pl. num. 1-40, 1 pl. non chiffrée, 40p. A very fresh copy with full margins, minor foxing and angular restorations on the first 6 leaves of text. Restored editorial boards, red cloth spine. Built by Alexandre Lenoir with the help of his friend Charles Percier, from 1795 onwards, the Musée des Monuments Français suffered from competition from the Musée du Louvre, before finally being dismantled in 1819, to the benefit of the latter, but also due to the reinstatement of certain elements of monumental sculpture such as the royal tombs of Saint-Denis. This work is a reminder of this. It is one of the first in which Louis Marie Normand, who collaborates here with his father Charles as engraver, appears as editor.
