Description

A lion's head sabre for officers of the cavalry, circa 1910 Property piece. Nickel-plated single-edged blade with fullers on both sides and the maker's mark "P.O. & Co." under a wild man (Pack, Solingen). Gilt brass knuckle-bow hilt in rich relief (rubbed), black plastic grip with wire winding, lion's head with two red glass eyes, a portrait of Wilhelm II beneath an imperial crown on the outside of the grip frame, crossed sabres and lances on the obverse side of the guard. Black lacquered steel scabbard (rubbed, traces of rust), one movable suspension ring. Signs of wear and age. Length 92 cm. Condition: II

Fighting sabre antelopes, Meissen, Knauff Schwerter 1850-1924, 2nd choice, designed by Otto Pilz in 1912, signed on the base, model no. B253, A dynamically moving, naturalistically worked group of two sabre antelopes jumping over each other in playful combat on a flat base. Polychrome underglaze painting. Fired crack, restored, h. 30 cm Pilz is best known for his naturalistic, dynamically animated animal figures, which he produced as a freelance sculptor for the Meissen manufactory from 1905. Portfolio 8 biblical heads, 43 x 32 to 44 x 333 cm, as well as a design for a prophet's head for ''Das Buch von Gott'', trimmed at bottom with remnants of inscription, each, stained, each mounted on support. 50 x 35 cm, unframed.
