A heavy Congolese power figure of the Songye Figure of a standing woman carved from wood. An embroidered loincloth with hair and snakeskin belt tied around her hips and hollowed belly. Attached to the arms is a small power figure with artificial pearl jewelry and iron bells. On the front of the neck a bronze bell hanging from a bamboo hoop and an iron lock, on the back a hanging of feathers and animal fur woven from plant fibers. The copper and brass-plated face with iron teeth and hair. Horn crown ornament. Bumped, small defects. Height approx. 110 cm. Condition: II -

Jahrhunderts zurück und beinhaltete Tanz, Akrobatik und Musik für die Darstellung chinesischer historischer Geschichten und Folklore. Ursprünglich trugen die Darsteller echte Masken, die später durch eine Art Schminke ersetzt wurden, die speziell für jede Figur entworfen wurde. - Zhang Fei (gest. 221 n. Chr.), Rufname Yide, war ein chinesischer Militärgeneral und Politiker, der unter dem Kriegsherrn Liu Bei in der späten Östlichen Han-Dynastie und der frühen Zeit der Drei Reiche in China diente. - Sehr gut erhalten. Dimensions of drawing: 10 x 10 cm, with border 29 x 27 cm. Under passepartout. - The emergence of Peking opera dates back to the end of the 18th century and included dance, acrobatics and music for the depiction of Chinese historical stories and folklore. Originally, the performers wore real masks, which were later replaced by a type of make-up specially designed for each character. - Zhang Fei (d. 221 AD), surnamed Yide, was a Chinese military general and politician who served under the warlord Liu Bei in the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the early Three Kingdoms period in China. - Very well preserved.

In der Karte mit den lateinischen Namen der Regionen bezeichnet, zudem mit der Inschrift auf Belgisch unten mittig und Bezeichnungen von fremder Hand in Bleistift. - Ränder ganz leicht unregelmäßig beschnitten und mit Läsuren. Vereinzelt leichte Braunflecken. Etwas lager- und griffspurig. Insgesamt gut. Sehr farbfrisches Aquarell, in Stilistik und Motivik angelehnt an das Mittelalter. Unsere Zeichnung ist nach einer mittelalterlichen Weltkarte Belgiens entstanden, auf der mittig 4 männlichen Figuren in Kostümen platziert sind. Am linken und oberen Randbereich der Darstellung weist unsere Zeichnung noch den Charakter eines Entwurfs auf, die Kolorierung wurde hier nicht ausgeführt. Diese muss insbesondere bei den 4 Figuren nachträglich im 20. Jhd. erfolgt sein, eklärt sich doch nur so die extreme Farbbrillanz und Leuchkraft der Farben der Kostüme. Watercolour, gouache and pencil on wove paper. Inscribed in the map with the Latin names of the regions, also with inscription in Belgisch at lower centre as well as those in pencil by another hand. - Margins very slightly irregularly cut and with some defects. Occasional light brown stains. Some storage and handling marks. Good overall. Very fresh watercolour, in style and motif reminiscent of the Middle Ages. - Our drawing is based on a medieval world map of Belgium on which 4 male figures in costumes are placed in the centre. On the left and at the top of the depiction the character of a sketch is still preserved as the colouring was not executed there. This must have been done later in the 20th century, especially for the 4 figures as this is the only way to explain the extreme brilliance and luminosity of the colours of the costumes.
