A bronze statuette of Chnum with grotesque features, Alexandrian, 1st century A.D. Small bronze statuette of the god Chnum in very good craftsmanship quality with the typical ram's head. The horns are curled down towards the back and pulled forward over the drooping or pressed down ears. The deity, depicted striding with his arms hanging down close to his body, has a rather chubby, small body, which lends the figure grotesque features typical of Alexandrian genre sculptures from the early period of Roman occupation. The feet on a semicircular pedestal, the back leaning against a pillar. On the back a hole with the remains of a lead pin, which was used to attach the small sculpture to a vertical background. Dark brown patina with minimal incrustations in the depths. Intact. Height 6.2 cm. Provenance: South German private collection, acquired from the estate of the grandfather who died 30 years ago.
