Translated from the English. Paris, Durand, Pissot, 1751. 2 parts in one vol. in-12, x-258-[2]-314 pp. 5 hors-texte natural history plates. Marbled fawn basane, ornate spine, arms at foot, arms in center of boards (period binding). Heads and spines restored. First edition of the French translation. The author was sent in 1726 by the "Compagnie royale d'Afrique en Angleterre" to survey plans, drawings and views of its forts and settlements on the Guinea coast. The report of his voyage was first published in English in London in 1744 (Gay 2823. Sabin 84561.) With the arms of Gabriel-Jérôme de BULLION D'ESCLIMONT, repeated on the spine.
