9th/10th Cent. Indian Pala-dynasty "Mukutadharin Buddha" sculpture in sylphite INDIA / BIHAR-BEGALS - PALA-DYNASTY - 9°/10th Century exceptional sculpture (75 x 47cm) in sylphite depicting the "Crowned Buddha" or "Mukutadharin Buddha" , flanked on either side by a mythical lion ("yali") - typical of the Pala period is the 3/4th relief structure in which the sculpture emerges, as it were, from the stele, clearly intended to be placed in niches of and with the intention of being viewed frontally.
