Sheet size between ca. 7.7 x 26 and 8.2 x 37.2 cm. Loose between 2 (1 with carving) wooden covers (9.7 x 38.8 cm.) With leather strap with metal buckle. Overall dimensions approx. 9.7 x 38.8 x 5.5 cm. - Signs of age and wear, some leaves with scratches, some damaged, some fingerstains, 1 leaf glued with tape. D

Tibetan thangka, 19th century. "The wheel of life". Mixed technique on fabric. It has slight flaws in the paint and wear on the side borders. Measurements: 71 x 51 cm.; 81 x 61 cm. (frame). Tibetan thangka with representation of the wheel of life or mandala, with representation of Indo-Buddhist divinities. The thangka is a type of Tibetan painting used by Buddhists for meditation, also known as “walking temples” due to the nomadic life of the Tibetans and considered one of the best expressions of Tibetan art. Buddhism maintains that there are Six Realms of Samsara or Existence in which consciousness is confined in a cycle of successive births from which it only emerges when it reaches Enlightenment.

Tibetan Thangka of the 19th century. "Padmasambhava and consorts". Oil on canvas. The canvas is damaged. Measurements: 100 x 75 cm; 111 x 85 cm (frame). Thangka with the representation of Padmasambhava, from Tibet. Padmasambhava was the great Buddhist master of Uddiyana, in the present Pakistan, introducer of Buddhism in Tibet during the VIII century AD. He is depicted flanked by his two wives, the Bengali princess Mandarava (right) and the Tibetan Yeshe Tshogyal (left). In the background, a landscape with small villages has been depicted. Tibetan thangkas are Buddhist banners, painted or embroidered on silk, other fabrics or paper, which can be rolled up. They were hung in monasteries and family altars, and occasionally carried by monks in religious processions. Originally, thangka paintings were popular with itinerant monks, as scroll paintings were easy to transport from one monastery to another. They were also important teaching tools, depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha, prominent lamas and bodhisattvas.
