Important manuscript - early 18th century. Important manuscript of about 550 pages, dealing with: Metaphysics and philosophy; ethics and morals; physics, mechanics, statics; chemistry and botany; physiology; astronomy. Text in Latin. Each part proceeds in the same way: definition of the problem. Discussion. Reasoned exposition of solutions. Conclusions. In particular, a lengthy 16-page development on the validity of COPERNIC's system versus PTOLEME's system. This manuscript has been assembled from several bound booklets of similar, but not identical, format. As a result, some pages have been trimmed short. Very legible writing, with clearly marked chapters. Numerous diagrams throughout. No erasures, this is a clean copy of a substantial body of knowledge, based on thematic studies. A preceptor's synthesis? 17 by 23 cm. Approx. 550 pages. Contemporary full marbled calf, 5-rib spine, untitled. Epidermal damage to spine ends, top cover damaged. Good condition inside. North Africa - PACHO (Jean-Raymond). Relation d'un voyage dans la Marmarique, la Cyrénaique, et les oasis d'Audjelah et de Maradèh. Paris, Firmin Didot frères, 1829. In-folio, fawn half-chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Atlas only, complete with 100 lithographed plates, including 5 in color (views, scenes, plans, botany). Along with Cailliaud, Pacho was one of the few French explorers of the Libyan desert in the first half of the 19th century. A good copy. Some foxing, mainly in the margins.

Tomus tertius [-quartius] operum [...] Paris, Jacques du Puy, 1565. 2 volumes in an in-folio volume of 566 pp, [1] bl. f., 627 pp. Red morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine, gilt title, double framing of triple gilt fillet with fleurons in spandrels, gilt arms in center of boards (17th-century binding, arms applied). Some light rubbing, small crack in one spine. Ex-libris Ludovic Froissart. A very fine copy bearing the arms and engraved bookplate of Antoine Nicolas GAVINET (1724-1795), Lyon apothecary and distinguished chemist. A member of the Académie des Sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Lyon, he wrote numerous memoirs on chemistry. His father, Jean-Marie Gavinet, had built up a library that Antoine-Nicolas continued to enrich. At the time of the French Revolution, this library contained between 5,000 and 6,000 volumes. During his lifetime, he gave a large part of it to his son. It was a library of botany, chemistry and natural sciences.

LYON. Large pewter baluster saupoudreuse, with gadrooned pedestal and openwork screw top, engraved in full with plant motifs. Marked by François CARMOUCHE, received master circa 1680: mouche / F.C. Control mark curiously affixed three times: 1°- LYON / --- /. 2°- FF couronnées / 1741 / (LY)ON. 3°- CC / crowned lily / 1741 / (LY)ON. Height: 22.6 cm. Before 1714 Curiously, we note here the presence on the same object of a control for common pewter and another for fine pewter.
