HARTUNG HANS: (1904-1989)

HARTUNG HANS: (1904-1989) German-French painter. A.L.S., Hans Hartung, to the verso of a picture postcard of La Croix-Valmer depicting a fisherman´s cabin at the side of the sea, n.p. (La Croix-Valmer, Var. Cote d´Azur), 4th October 1953, to Pierre Descargues, in French. Hartung states that he has at last found his correspondent´s letter, and thus their address, and continues to write ´Malheureusement je ne possède pas le moindre petit cliché. Je le regrette beaucoup puisque je tiens absolument a etre represente dans ton bouquin. Que faire? Je n´ai que des photos en noir et blanc. En veux-tu? Et quand?´ (Translation: ´Unfortunately I don't have a single snapshot. I'm very sorry about that, because I really want to be represented in your book. What can I do? I only have black and white photos. Would you like some? And when?´), further asking Descargues to write or telephone him around the 20th to 25th October and adding that they should in any case see each other as much time has passed since they last met. Accompanied by a good vintage unsigned 9.5 x 7 photograph of Hartung seated in a half-length pose within his studio surrounded by various artworks. VG, 2 Pierre Descargues (1925-2012) French journalist, art critic, photographer and writer. Descargues devoted a book to Hans Hartung which was published in 1977.
