Maurice BOMPARD (1857-1936) Canal in Venice Oil on canvas Signed lower left, titled and annotated "Hors concours". 46 x 55cm Framed Condition report available on request: [email protected] NOTICE A French painter, he was one of the founders of the Société des peintres orientalistes. A student of Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes français from 1878. Between 1890 and 1900, he lived in Biskra, Algeria, where he painted scenes of everyday Oriental life, as well as views of Venice. His work is represented in French public collections, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay.
