Mexico City 1968 Summer Olympics 'Type 4' Torch Official ‘Type 4’ torch from the Mexico 1968 Summer Olympics, constructed of black aluminum and a wooden handle, measuring 20.5″ in length and 4″ at its widest point. The upper metal ring features a pattern of six doves and the metallic label at the bottom reads “Mexico” twice. The base of the handle bears an affixed label that features the logo of the Games and names the designer, Manuel Villazon. The lower black base is loose from the torch, as are its two metallic “Mexico” labels, which are kept together with an elastic band. Includes the original pink-and-turquoise tube, which features slight wear, including some rusting to the end caps. The torch relay for the Mexico 1968 Summer Games recreated the route taken by Christopher Columbus to the New World, and began on August 23, 1968, in Olympia, Greece. It notably traveled through Columbus’s birthplace in Genoa, where he set sail from Palos in Spain, and the first land he reached in San Salvador. In all, there were 2,778 torchbearers on the 13,546 km route.

OKAMURA, Kintaro (1867-1935). Icones of Japanese algae. Tokyo: Kazamashobo, 1907-1942. Scarce and fundamental repertory of Japanese algae of great artistic as well as scientific importance. The care taken by the author in reproducing each specimen in drawings is linked to his bibliophilic passion: Okamura in fact collected, studied and classified educational books from the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa era, leaving a study on the collection of Japanese folk books called Ohraimono. 10 volumes in 7 parts, 4to, (258 x 190mm). Numerous colored engraved plates outside text, very good condition. Contemporary cloth binding in publisher's printed cardboard (some tears to cases). (7)

Circle by BARTOLOMEO PEDON (Venice, 1665-1732), ca. 1700. "Coastal View". Circa 1700 Oil on canvas. Re-coloured. It presents repainting and very slight losses in the left margin. Measurements: 72 x 99 cm; 88 x 114,5 cm. In this lacustrine composition of Venetian school, the proximity of Bartolomeo Pedon and his bewitching "caprices" is evident: the real geography is transfigured by a sensualist imagination typical of the rococo period. Several scenes take place in a wide panorama bordered in the background by imposing rocks blurred by mist. In the foreground, gondoliers ply the calm waters and fishermen converse on a promontory. In the middle ground, Renaissance architecture alternates between turrets and domes, which the light makes silver sparkles. The pre-Romantic sensibility that flourished in Venice around Pedon is evident. Bartolomeo Pedon was an Italian painter of the late Baroque period. He painted mainly landscapes, often nocturnal or whimsical architectural whimsy in a wild landscape. In this he seems to have been influenced by Marco Ricci and Antonio Marini, but also by Magnasco and Salvatore Rosa. Many of his works are in private hands. In terms of public institutions, he is in the Walters Art Museum collection in Baltimore, among others. According to other sources, he was born in 1655 in Padua and worked in the monastery of San Benedetto.
