Hamburg. - Albrecht Bruck (1874-1961). Hamburg and other North German views. Drawings. 8 (6 signed and 2 further autograph inscribed) sheets, pencil, some dated 1913-1943. ca. 18:14 to 20:15cm. Enclosed: Albrecht Bruck, View of Hamburg-Blankenese, Elbeinfahrt. Large-format etching with Remarque, signed and dated (19)14 in the plate. 31:52.5 (63:51.5) cm, slight losses in the white margin. - Soon after completing his studies at the Berlin and Dresden academies (student of Hans Meyer and Eugen Bracht), Albrecht Bruck devoted himself to his Hamburg views, in 1906 in collaboration with the Commetersche Kunsthandlung am Ort; for the etchings created in the process, see the list on Wikipedia. The fact that these drawings were created before the destruction of the city during the war also makes them historically valuable.

Artist info: German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. Painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1901 Hamburg to 1979 Hamburg-Blankenese), initially trained as a teacher, 1924-25 at the Gerda Koppel art school in Hamburg, where he was a pupil of Friedrich Ahlers-Hestermann and Paul Kayser, 1925 scholarship holder for a trip to Italy, 1926 stay in Paris, 1927-40 lecturer at the Koppel art school, 1932-33 stay in Paris with a scholarship from the city of Hamburg, 1957 guest lecturer at the HBK Hamburg, 1958 professorship at the Academy in Rome and 1963 guest professorship at the HBK Berlin, undertook numerous study trips, from 1939 alternately active in Hamburg and Forto d'Ischia, source: Vollmer, AKL and Internet.
