A LACQUERED WOOD SASHI NETSUKE OF A DESICCATED SALMON Unsigned Japan, 18th-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The negoro-style lacquered wood netsuke carved as a dried salmon (shiozake), a classic dish during Japanese New Year (Shogatsu). The open mouth revealing an upper and lower row of tiny teeth, the flesh scraped for its meat, spare the tail and fins. The stripped face gaunt and carved out to reveal the skeletal features. Himotoshi through the gills. HEIGHT 16.2 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor surface wear.
