A FINE GOLD LACQUER HAKO NETSUKE WITH LOTUS BLOSSOMS Unsigned Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The rectangular two-part hako (box) netsuke bearing a dense gold nashiji ground which is worked with kinji to the top and the sides in the form of a nyoi quatrefoil lobes. The cover is further decorated in shallow takamaki-e to depict lotus blossoms borne on karakusa vines, the sides similarly detailed with sprigs of karakusa. The interior with gold fundame rims and densely sprinkled nashiji housing the silver looped cord attachment mounted to a prunus finial, the underside with a silver kiku himotoshi. LENGTH 3.6 cm Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear. One light scratch to the interior.
