Album of engravings from the 16th century (between 1530 and 1580). Format 37 x 50 cm, 165 engravings divided into 138 single and double sheets. The themes are mainly religious or mythological, with many reproductions of paintings by Michelangelo and Raphael, as well as a few secular subjects (L'Asinaria by Michele Lucchesi, Nel Paese di Cuccagna and Il Mondo alla Riversa by Niccolo Nelli, l'Arboro de la Pazzia by Ambrogio Brambilla...). Titled Oeuvres gravées de Lafrery on the back, the collection actually includes 43 engravings published by Antoine Lafrery, 46 by Antonio Salamanca (including the 32 plates of the life of Apuleius mounted two by two), around ten by Michele Lucchesi, etc... Other signatures include Pierre Weiriot, Andrea Marelli, Beatrizius, Cavalieri, Domenico Zenoi, etc. A few prints before the letter, most are cut flush with the bowl and the margins re-mounted. Marginal restoration throughout the volume, a few plates show old gaps at edges or folds. Bound in 19th-century half chagrin, a few ink notes have been inserted. Rare set. Expert : Frédéric HARTMANN
