Gaston PRUNIER (1863-1927). View of Paris from the banks of the Seine. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Size : 50 x 63 cm. Provenance: Estate of Monsieur Louis Thirion, furniture from the private mansion built in 1923 by Gibert et Ogé, which has remained in the family ever since. Gaston Prunier (1863-1927) was a French artist known for his drawings, paintings and watercolors. He was a member of the Groupe des XXX, a group of avant-garde artists of the early 20th century that included such notable artists as Raoul Dufy, Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet. Prunier studied with Charles Lhullier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and with Alexandre Cabanel at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited his work in various Parisian galleries, including the Salon des Cent and the Salon des Indépendants. He also participated in the annual exhibitions of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Some of Prunier's works include "Parliament, London", a watercolor on paper, and "The Rainbow", an oil painting on canvas. His works have been the subject of auctions and exhibitions, and some are held in the collections of museums such as the Musée d'Art Moderne André Malraux in Le Havre.
