Description

VIENNA (late 18th-early 19th century) Set of four silver plates adorned with contoured twisted gadroons. Each plate engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by two lions and crowned with a count's crown. The coat of arms bears the motto: "Vincit Omnia Veritas". Three of the plates bear the Austrian hallmark for Vienna 1830? and are signed: "ST MAYERHOFER", probably for STEPHAN MAYERHOFER (1772-1852), goldsmith to the Viennese court (1830/1840). The fourth plate is dated 1750? and bears the hallmark of the master silversmith: "TGF". The set has been weevil tested. Diameter: 24.5 cm. Scratches from use. Weight: 1706 grams.
