Description

DOUAI 1768 Gilt silver olive spoon (later), filet pattern, engraved with two 19th-century DR Gothic letters topped by a marquis's crown. The spoon is pierced with foliage around a checkerboard engraved with flowers. The repercé is delimited by a heart-shaped cut-out specific to Maximilien Savary". The interior of the spoon is engraved with a stylized shell. Master goldsmith: Philippe-Joseph LEGRAIN, received in 1756. Weight: 101 g - length: 28.8 cm Literature: in Madame Nicole CARTIER's book "Les orfèvres de Douai", on page 287, there is an olive spoon from 1743 - 1744 by Maximilien SAVARY, with exactly the same pattern. This model was therefore adopted by LEGRAIN thirteen years after the original.
