Giorgio de Chirico Signed Photograph Italian artist and writer (1888-1978) who founded the scuola metafisica art movement, which profoundly influenced the surrealists. Vintage color glossy 7 x 9 photo of the Italian artist in later age, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, "A Marisa del Re, cordialment, Giorgio de Chirico, Roma 17 April 1969.” Matted and framed to an overall size of 12 x 15. In fine condition, with light fading to the image, and a few small creases, one on Chirico's forehead. Marisa del Re founded and directed the Marisa del Re Gallery in New York City from 1969 to 2001, representing exclusive international artists like Robert Indiana, Conrad Marca-Relli, Valerio Adami, Bettina Werner, Arnaldo Tomato, and many others. Her important contribution to the artistic and cultural life of New York is reflected in the organization of countless successful exhibitions, both in her gallery and in the most important American museums.

Historical collection in three parts in separate pagination written by Théodore Godefroy (1580-1649), historiographer to King Louis XIII. The first part relates the visit of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and his son Wenceslas to his nephew, King Charles V of France, in Paris in 1378. A feast was held in their honor at the Conciergerie, attended by 800 guests for the coronation of Wenceslas. The second part seeks to show that the kings of Portugal were descended from the House of France. The third part similarly aims to show the title of the kings of France to the crown of Spain. A fine copy. (hole with missing endpaper.)

Metz, Domenge Brecquin, 1624. In-4 of [20]-221-[3 bl.] pp. Soft ivory vellum (contemporary binding). Unique edition of this rare work recounting the life of Bernard de Nogaret, seigneur de la Valette (1553-1592), admiral of France and governor of Burgundy and Provence, brother of Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette, duc d'Epernon and governor of Metz. He took part in the Wars of Religion, commanding the royal armies in Dauphiné in 1585 and Provence in 1592, and died at the siege of Roquebrune on February 12, 1592. He was also Molière's patron. The last page features an intaglio portrait of the Duc de La Valette by Thomas de Leu, with the following quatrain: "A l'honneur de mon Dieu, et l'estat de mon Roy // Je devouay mon ame, et consacraye ma vÿe // Si le sort et la mort triumphèrent de moy // Mon courage et ma foy triumphent de l'enuye". This is the only known work from the presses of Domenge Brecquin, active in Metz from 1617 to 1624 (Ph. Hoch, Trésor des bibliothèques de Lorraine, 1999, p. 60). (Brunet III, 1546.) Several handwritten notes and underlined passages, several leaves slightly browned.
