Tortoiseshell cabriolet, China, 19th century Folded fan, known as a "cabriolet", the two paper leaves lined with silk and painted with gouache. On one side, two palace scenes, and on the other, a palace scene framed by two landscapes, and a pheasant among flowers. All figures are dressed in silk and have heads in relief. Brown tortoiseshell frame painted in three registers with gilded flowers, figures and butterflies. Gilded metal clasp and silk tassel. H.t. 22 cm-H.f. 3.7 cm -H.f. 3.2 cm (good condition, wear, small missing parts) In its original black lacquered bamboo box with gold decoration of two literati in a garden.
