Rare Meissen Art Nouveau wall plate with water lily decor in pâte-sur-pâte painting. Round, slightly deepened, smooth-edged form. The mirror shows large water lilies on a pond with two blue-winged dragonflies sitting on a leaf. Fine polychrome pâte-sur-pâte and underglaze painting (mass painting). Probably designed by Rudolf Hentschel. Mold no. F 177. Wall hanging. Sword mark. D. 35 cm. The pâte-sur-pâte technique developed by chemist Dr. J. Heintze in Meissen, as well as the equally created, varied palette of underglaze colors, had a great influence on Meissen Art Nouveau porcelains. Rudolf Hentschel (1869 - 1951) created numerous designs for landscape, plant and figurative representations as well as tableware forms and fully sculptural figures. He studied at the Munich Art Academy and the Académie Julian in Paris and joined the Meissen manufactory as a painter in 1895. Cat. Bröhan Museum, vol.
