DROUOT ESTIMATIONS - Ken's 60th anniversary to support Make-A-Wish
Friday 28 May 2021From May 28 to May 30, connoisseurs and collectors of the iconic Ken™ Doll will have the opportunity to bid in an auction organised to celebrate the doll’s 60th birthday. The proceeds will support Make-A-Wish®. Make-A-Wish creates lifechanging wishes for children with critical illnesses around the world. Make-A-Wish has the unique ability to transform a child and their family’s lives during some of their most difficult trials – as a wish creates an opportunity for hope and the ability to experience life beyond illness.
For the occasion, three Ken Dolls and a small Buggy will be offered. All four lots are the result of a collaboration between the toy company Mattel® and the fashion brand Berluti. Each doll is unique, only three copies of each have been created. They are not available for sale. The auction is organised by the auction house Drouot Estimations and is live from today on Drouot Digital’s platform.
Since 1961 when the Ken Doll was launched, Ken has been the iconic partner of Barbie. He is defined by his bold fashion choices, that constantly adapts to society’s changes. For this 60th anniversary, Berluti and Mattel have come up with modern and elegant outfits from the Summer 2021’s Collection, that have been designed with the collaboration of Kris Van Assche, Creative Director of Berluti.
The Ken Dolls are wearing a Prince of Wales costume with the T-shirt that has been specially printed with the “Berluti” and “Ken” logos, Camden shoes and a miniature version of the Nino clutch (doll 1); a printed shirt matching black trousers and Stellar braided calf sneakers (doll 2); and finally, a leather jacket and a silk printed shirt, large jogging trousers and a pair Camden braided leather shoes (doll 3). The outfits come with the iconic beach Buggy Berluti that was revealed in 2020, here specially created by Hot Wheels®.
