ARNE JACOBSEN (Denmark, 1902 - 1971) for Fritz Hansen. Rare armchair "Gaviota" or "FR 3207", Italy. Chromed tubular steel frame. Newly upholstered in brown leather. Provenance: original interior of the town hall of Mainz, Germany. Die-cut stamps on the base. The plastic frame that acts as a base has visible breakage in the photograph. Measurements: 78 x 61 x 52 cm. With his focus on simplicity of form and innovative function over trends, architect and designer Arne Jacobsen was a pillar of mid-century modern design. The model on tender has its roots in the Lily™ chair, which was originally known as the Series 8 and was designed for the Danish national bank. The first armless model (3108) debuted in 1968. The design was introduced with arms (3208) in 1970 at the Danish Furniture Fair. The chair design has also been called "Seagull". Architect and designer, Arne Jacobsen studied for four years at the Copenhagen School of Construction, then entered the Faculty of Architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Among his most outstanding architectural works are St. Catherine's College in Oxford, the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen, the headquarters of the National Bank of Denmark in the same city, and the Royal Danish Embassy in London. As a designer, he has created furniture that has become classics, including the "Ant" chair (1951) and the "Swan" and "Egg" chairs designed for the SAS Hotel. He is also known for his 1955 model 3107 chair, also called "Chair number 7", of which more than five million copies were sold, starring alongside Christine Keeler in Lewis Morley's iconic portrait. His other contribution to popular culture in the media is his designer cutlery, with spoons for both hands, which were chosen for the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" for their futuristic look. The key to the success of Jacobsen's work lies in its elegant and essential design, and today we can find them in collections such as those of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London or the MoMA in New York, among many others.

GAE AULENTI (Palazzolo dello Stella, Italy, 1927-Milan, 2012). For Poltronova. Rocking chair "Sgarsul". Italy - 1962 Suede leather and wood. Measurements: 89 cm x 73 cm x 108 cm (total); 52 cm (seat height). The Sgarsul rocking chair is a masterpiece. It features a curved wooden frame that draws an arabesque in the air intended to embellish and at the same time cushion the rocking of the suede upholstered seat. Aulenti's designs are celebrated for their unique combination of form and function, and the Sgarsul rocking chair is a prime example of his genius. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the chair features luxurious upholstery that enhances its sophisticated aesthetic. The ergonomic design ensures maximum comfort, while the smooth motion provides a relaxing experience. This Sgarsul rocking chair is not just a piece of furniture, but a work of art that showcases Aulenti's visionary design and Poltronova's exceptional craftsmanship. Gaetana Aulenti studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1954. The following year she began her career as editor of the magazine "Casabella-Continuità", a position she held for ten years. In 1956 she opened her own office in Milan, and four years later she joined the Industrial Design Association (ADI). In 1965 Martinelli Luce began to manufacture her most emblematic design, the "Pipistrello" lamp, and that same year she visited France, Great Britain and the United States for academic reasons. In 1966 she was appointed vice-president of the ADI, and the following year she became an honorary member of the American Society of Interior Designers. During the seventies, Aulenti also worked in collaboration with Luca Ronconi designing theatrical spaces, and in 1979 she was awarded the UBU prize for the best Italian scenography. In 1983 she received the "Medaille d'Architecture" from the Paris Academy, and the following year the Joseph Hoffmann Prize in Vienna. In 1987 she was appointed Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. Aulenti has worked on projects for the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the Pavela Stadium for the Olympic Games in Turin, and in 1991 she was awarded the Praemium Imperiale of the Japan Art Association.
