Abmessung in geöffnetem Zustand ca. H 53 x B 44 cm. Die ursprüngliche Verwendung wohl als Staffagerequisiten für Marionetten- und Puppentheater. Der auch mit einer Hand zu bedienende Öffnungsmechanismus ermöglichte eine für diese Bühnen effiziente Möglichkeit, den Überraschungseffekt eines sich im Handumdrehen aufschlagenden Pfauenrades spektakulär zu nutzen, eine Technik, die in Zeiten des zu Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts blühenden Orientalismus auf Volksmärkten und Kleinbühnen sicherlich geschätzt wurde. - Mit wenigen und unscheinbaren Randläsuren, die metallischen Partikel tls. etw. oxidiert. Insgesamt außergewöhnlich gut erhaltene Beispiele für frühe Pop-up-Objekte sowie ausgesprochen dekorativ. Theatre - Pair of peacocks. Mixed media: cardboard base with simple, hand-operated and lockable folding device on the back, with applied, hand-painted crepe paper with small metallic particles, cutouts for neck, head and foot sections lithographically printed on both sides, multi-layered China paper. - The original use probably as staffage props for marionette and puppet theaters.
