In der Karte mit den lateinischen Namen der Regionen bezeichnet, zudem mit der Inschrift auf Belgisch unten mittig und Bezeichnungen von fremder Hand in Bleistift. - Ränder ganz leicht unregelmäßig beschnitten und mit Läsuren. Vereinzelt leichte Braunflecken. Etwas lager- und griffspurig. Insgesamt gut. Sehr farbfrisches Aquarell, in Stilistik und Motivik angelehnt an das Mittelalter. Unsere Zeichnung ist nach einer mittelalterlichen Weltkarte Belgiens entstanden, auf der mittig 4 männlichen Figuren in Kostümen platziert sind. Am linken und oberen Randbereich der Darstellung weist unsere Zeichnung noch den Charakter eines Entwurfs auf, die Kolorierung wurde hier nicht ausgeführt. Diese muss insbesondere bei den 4 Figuren nachträglich im 20. Jhd. erfolgt sein, eklärt sich doch nur so die extreme Farbbrillanz und Leuchkraft der Farben der Kostüme. Inscribed in the map with the Latin names of the regions, also with inscription in Belgisch at lower centre as well as those in pencil by another hand. - Margins very slightly irregularly cut and with some defects. Occasional light brown stains. Some storage and handling marks. Good overall. Very fresh watercolour, in style and motif reminiscent of the Middle Ages. - Our drawing is based on a medieval world map of Belgium on which 4 male figures in costumes are placed in the centre. On the left and at the top of the depiction the character of a sketch is still preserved as the colouring was not executed there. This must have been done later in the 20th century, especially for the 4 figures as this is the only way to explain the extreme brilliance and luminosity of the colours of the costumes. In der Manier der Neuen Meister der Niederlande, gelingt es Holstayn wie seinen Kollegen im 17. Jhd. nicht nur hyperrealistische Abbildungen von Blumenarrangements zu schaffen, sondern die Blumen in ihrer Vielfalt und Pracht zu konservieren im Moment der Blüte. Holstayn zeigt sein Können in der Varianz der verschiedenen Blumen, bei denen unter anderem rosafarbene Rosen, blaue Hyazynthen und rot und weiß gefiederte Tulpen zu erkennen sind. Ebenfalls der Bildtradition der Niederländer verhaftet, fokussiert sich Holstayn ausschließlich auf die Blumen, hält den Bildhintergrund betont schlicht und deutet lediglich die Vase - hier mit der sehr reizvollen Spiegelung - und den Marmortisch an. In Eleganz entfaltet sich der Charme der Blumen. Oil on wood panel. Signed. Framed. - Light colour abrasion in places along the edges. Partially very fine craquelure and slight surface soiling. Very splendid, opulent bouquet of flowers in bright colours, in the manner of 17th century Dutch still lifes. - The fact that Josef Holstayn's paintings were only created in the second half of the 20th century is cause for admiration. In the manner of the New Masters of the Netherlands, Holstayn, like his colleagues in the 17th century, succeeds not only in creating hyper-realistic depictions of floral arrangements, but also in preserving the flowers in their diversity and splendour, capturing the moment of blossoming. Holstayn shows his skill in the variety of the different flowers, which include pink roses, blue hyacinths and red and white feathered tulips. Also rooted in the pictorial tradition of the Dutch, Holstayn focusses exclusively on the flowers, keeping the background of the picture emphatically simple and only hinting at the vase - here with the very attractive reflection - and the marble table. The charm of the flowers unfolds in elegance.
