Perret & Vibert, also known as the house of bamboo, was founded in Paris in 1879 by Alfred Perret founded a company in Paris specializing in the production of bamboo furniture and luxury baskets, as well as the importation of authentic Japanese objects for a wealthy Parisian clientele. Located at 33 rue du Quatre-Septembre, the company specialized in the production of carved wooden furniture and lacquered furniture of Far Eastern inspiration at the beginning of the 1880s. Perret & Vibert, true creators of their time, participated in the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition, winning two silver medals. After this first exhibition, they participated in several other events: in 1894, at the Universal, International and Colonial Exhibition of Lyon and at the Horticultural Exhibition of the Tuileries, then at the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900. The "Maison des Bambous" enjoyed a reputation that went far beyond the borders of France. The world's greatest personalities visited the shop and decorated their homes with Perret and Vibert's creations. Thus, Empress Eugènie, Princess Mathilde, the Duke of Montmorency but also Vanderbilt, the Japanese Marshal Yamagata, the Queen of Portugal and the King of Greece George I honored Perret et Vibert with their regular visits and purchases. 136x52x30 cm
