Silver and lapis lazuli table clock Italy, 20th century Height x width x depth: 11.6 x 10.4 x 4.1 cm. Weight: 405.3 g. Temple-style case in 800/1000 silver with two side columns in rock crystal and a top part in lapis lazuli. Central clock in gilded metal and silver, white dial with Roman numerals and black hour markers. Hallmarked "800" and Italian chamber mark used after 1971. Item condition grading: *** fair. The case of the clock is in a good state of preservation with the normal wear and defects commensurate with its age and use over time. The watch movement is currently working but may requires a technical service.

Legatura alle armi in pergamena floscia coeva, cornice di filetto impressa a freddo sui piatti, al centro stemma della Famiglia Strozzi con le iniziali AS, dorso liscio con fregi in oro, tagli in oro. Pagine [160], 672, [4, con Frontespizio della parte seconda], 673-1527, [12]. Impresa tipografica ai 3 Frontespizi, capilettera ornati; ritratto dell'autore entro ovale con splendida bordura formata da figure allegoriche e frutti; oltre 1000 grandi silografie a 3/4 di pagina. Restauro alla legatura, internamente qualche pagina brunita, tracce d’uso e foxing. Rara edizione in italiano con la serie completa delle figure di grande formato. Le pregiate silografe sono magistralmente incise da Wolfang Meyerpeck sui disegni originali di Giorgio Liberale. Il Mattioli, intendendo commentare l’opera sulla materia medica di Dioscoride, scrisse un libro che ebbe un enorme successo in tutta Europa, e fu poi ristampato per oltre due secoli divenendo un punto di riferimento obbligato per speziali, farmacisti, botanici e medici. In questa splendida edizione sono incise più di 1000 grandi xilografie che raffigurano soprattutto piante, fiori e frutti, ma anche animali, particolarmente uccelli e pesci; ogni illustrazione è accompagnata da una precisa descrizione e dalle indicazioni sulle corrispondenti virtù mediche e alimentari. Edizione in due parti con registro e paginazione continui. Si tratta della seconda edizione in italiano con le figure grandi; il Ritratto dell’Autore, che appare per la prima volta in questa edizione, è alla carta k8v. della prima parte. Binding repaired at edges with new spine lining, gilt edges a little rubbed, title-page foxed, occasional staining or foxing through much of the volume, a few leaves browned. Rare Italian edition with the complete set of large-format woodcut illustrations. The fine woodcuts are masterfully engraved by Wolfang Meyerpeck on the original drawings by Giorgio Liberale. Mattioli, intending to comment on Dioscorides' work on materia medica, wrote a book that was a huge success throughout Europe and was then reprinted for more than two centuries, becoming a must-have reference for apothecaries, pharmacists, botanists and physicians. More than 1,000 large woodcuts are engraved in this splendid edition, depicting mainly plants, flowers and fruits, but also animals, particularly birds and fish; each illustration is accompanied by a precise description and indications of the corresponding medical and dietary virtues. Two-part edition with continuous register and pagination. This is the second edition in Italian with large woodcuts; the Portrait of the Author, appearing for the first time in this edition, is at leaf k8v. of the first part. Arber: “with large and very beautiful figures”.At the end the work is accompanied, with its own Titlepage, by the treatise De Ratione distillandi, also punctually illustrated with 6 woodcuts depictind distillation procedures.
