CIVELLI, Giuseppe (1816-1882). Gran carta d'Italia. Milan: Civelli e Comp, 1845. Scarce first edition of the largest map drawn by Civelli, updating and expanding that of Rizzi Zannoni published in 1821. The author began as an apprentice weaver, then specialised in drawing maps, opening a printing house in Milan. Folio album, (422 x 560 mm) ff. 28, including the two title-pages, illustrating the complete large map of Italy, with watercoloured borders; preceded by a watercoloured plate illustrating how to unfold the sheets to assemble the large map (some wear). Nineteenth-century binding in muted half cloth (some wear). (1)
